"Autonomy in shipping; opportunities and challenges", Per A. Brinchmann, VP Special Projects, Wilh. Wilhelmsen Holding ASA, and chairman of the board of Massterly.
Autonomy has become a buzzword in the shipping community. What does it mean, why should we embrace it and where will it take us? Show-stoppers, and how to overcome them. Wilhelmsen and Kongsberg Maritime have established the joint venture Massterly AS to explore the opportunities in operation of autonomous vessels and logistics. In addition, they see opportunities in traditional shipping. Brinchmann shared invformation about some projects and ideas they are now developing.

"Autonomy in shipping; Is today's legal framework ready?", Herman Steen, Partner and lawyer at Wikborg Rein
The development of auonomous ships are pushing the boundaries of today's legal framework which is based on the assumption that the vessel has a Master and crew onboard. Can autonomous vessels comply with the existing regulations? Who is the Master if the vessel is monitored remotely from a control room ashore? In case of a collision, how will liability be apportioned and who can be held liable for claims? These and other legal implications were considered.

"Offshore opportunities and challenges in Brazil"
Brazil is one of the most interesting places for the offshore industry, having a great potential when it comes to oil, gas and offshore wind. The production of oil and gas in Brazil is expected to double within the next 10 years. However, the fall of the oil price in 2014 hit Brazil hard and many of the companies in the offshore industry scaled back their investments in Brazil around that time. However the horizon is getting brighter, and investments are increasing as the oil price returns to more optimistic levels. ..........
The seminar was designed to give us an update on the Brazilian market and flag, some important things to consider when operating in Brazil.

Godofredo Mendes Vianna, Partner and Lawyer in Kincaid Mendes Vianna Law Firm
Godofredo discussed Petrobras' time charter contracting for offshore vessels, Brazilian regulatory issues and recent court rulings in time charter disputes. He also gave an update of general political changes in Brazil and in Petrobras. Finally he touched upon the decommission activities in Brazil, which is a major topic in Brazil thes days.

Klaus A. Døscher, Lawyer in BAHR Law Firm
He shared some of his experience from the time he was in Brazil, and talked about the practical challenges in dealing with Petrobras and Brazilian authorites from a Shipowner's point of view.
